HISTORY
Dragons Darts Club is a product of the Covid 19 pandemic. It all started when one of our founders installed a dartboard at his home during lockdown in 2021 when curfews were in place. A plan was made to gather a few friends together, have a few drinks; braai and to just have fun before they had to leave. It was decided here to invite friends over and play throughout the night until the next morning. We started off with killer and moved over to 501. It was slow at first but using a calculator, which was a huge help. After a few nights we decided amongst the friends that we were going to put some money down on the games and one of the founding members walked away with R900 in cash, which is something I will never forget. The next day he bought his first set of Tungsten darts. This continued for a couple of months until the members decided to join another club to get into the competitive leagues.
This lasted for around 6 months and we decided to approach WPDA to register a new darts club. Nothing big was planned. We were planning on having only 6 players to start, per team. We were accepted in the WPDA league. Players started joining and before we knew it our club had 12 players. We were supposed to start at the bottom in 3rd league, but due to a late withdrawal, Dragons was thrown in the deep-end and started in 1st league. We knew it was going to be tough because, between the 6 of us, we only had a couple of months experience versus the other clubs that had years of experience. With alot of dedication and many, many hours of practise, Dragons went on to win Gold in the 1st league of 2022. From here Dragons grew, adding another 12 players to their profile for the 2023 season where we fielded 4 teams. in this year we had a teams in the Premier, 2nd and two 3rd league teams. 2023 was a great year with Premier securing 4th place, 2nd league winning gold and 3rd league taking the Silver. 2024 the club just exploded beyond expectation, we now have 41 players and 6 teams in total, we also have the biggest female membership of all clubs and we pride ourselves that we went from the “new” club in 2022 to the biggest club in WPDA union within 2 years. Hard work, lots of dedication and a perfect group of players that help grow the dream that started in 2022. end of 2024 we decided to change Unions hoping to grow in 2025
